Bill McLaughlin, the youngest
of ten, grew up in rural West Tennessee where his father was
a sharecropper, and his parents, uneducated and economically deprived,
struggled to eke out a living. He left home at the age of fourteen
in order to achieve his goal of obtaining an education.
After attending Memphis State University, he served in the military
for three years, then moved to Chattanooga, TN. There he joined
his long time friend, Raymond Hale, Jr. in the real estate business.
Subsequently, he accepted a position with Interstate Life and
Accident Insurance Company in the real estate investment department.
While working at Interstate, he completed his formal education
at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, receiving a B.
S. degree in Business Administration. In 1972 he moved back to
West Tennessee. He worked in a real estate and banking environment
for thirty-seven years and achieved a S.R.P.A. real estate appraisal
designation. He retired in 2007 as Senior Vice President of Regions
Bank.
Bill McLaughlin lives in Germantown, Tennessee with his wife
of 46 years. They have two children and two grandchildren. |

Bill has been my
friend since the middle 1940s when he was only 10 years
old, shopping with his parents at Hales Grocery in Halls,
Tennessee. Bill became, first, a helper at the store and then
an employee. He lived with my parents, attended Halls High School
and worked in the store after my brother Bob and I went to college
in the 1950s.
Bill has climbed the ladder of success through education,
commitment and dedication to his church, his family, his business,
and community.
A Christian gentleman of honesty and integrity, Bill is like
a brother to me and is a friend I have cherished through the
years. You will enjoy reading his story.
