It's the year 1963 in a small, rural county in East Tennessee. A place secluded from the rest of the world, where folks still moonshine for a living and materialism doesn't exist, becomes a source of wonder and intrigue for an 8-year-old boy. A rustic cabin provides a place where an untold history comes to life. Meet Elmer and Virgil, real-life characters who demonstrate both an accurate and hilarious example of the lifestyle that was so common in this area and time, but that has become so far removed from today's world. From historical landmarks and chronological events to fond memories and enduring friendships, this journey through time uncovers an amazing history.
The Cabin Chronicles offers an honest and unique peek into Monroe County history through a clever depiction of personal encounters and memories. Helms' remarkable recollections and witty descriptions reveal a way of life that has almost disappeared entirely. These memoirs have been written with an utmost attention to accuracy and present over 40 years of a history that would be otherwise forgotten.
